2010 - A year without resolutions - but loaded with Goals

Every January people make 1o0's if not 1000's of resolutions to do, have, or be better in the upcoming year. 2009 was defined by my bucking of that trend for the year. Think about the practice of arbitrarily making up things that need to be fixed in your life and putting them on a list. I refused to do that in 2009 and consequently had the best year of my life (personally and professionally) since 2000.

Being a father, husband and business owner presents many challenges. None of which can be predicted at any given time. But here is what 2010 is going to bring.

1) Weight Loss - at 338 (this morning) after holiday feasting, its become apparent that I can no longer want to change, I HAVE to. Goal for 2010 = lose 5lbs a month or a total of at least 60 lbs. PS I would love to lose more, but lets be realistic I have set goals of 100lbs and 110 lbs weight loss and never made it. SO I am shooting for a much more achievable goal. Be at 300 by my wifes birthday and 290 by my birthday, and 278 by the end of the year. After I hit those goals then we will look at the next phase. The one beautiful thing about goals is that you can never be punished for hitting them too soon :)

2) Financial Freedom - The last 6 years of our life has been wrought with financial heartache. we have made poor decision after poor decision. This years goal is to double what I made in 2009, and to pay off all our outstanding debt (outside of the house, and student loans). This will have to be done in a very practical and strategic manner. Looks like the Mrs and I will be having a long coversation on our trip to KC this weekend.

3) Find and build a business that can have repeatable revenue streams without much direction from me. In Phase 2 Consulting is taking off but there will need to be a few more things that jump start our business model to make it start accelerating. This will be the most difficult goal to find, but once established should be the easiest goal to sustain.

Until Next year...

The filth of your own reflection

Last night our neighborhood had an ugly sweater party. Fun times, loads of laughter, food, and alcohol... I mean who doesn't appreciate boozing it up breaking chairs, falling down and busting knobs off the counters. But with all the fun there was a tragic outcome in the aftermath.

My reflection. The nights festivities led to rolls of films being shot, or more accurately memory cards filled up, group pictures, action shots, you name it it was exposed by the neighboratzzi. Now just having this incriminating evidence should be enough to keep any person humble, but we are not a connected community where the time capsule of photos is now store online. Mr. KnowyourplaceBook.com (facebook) has all these great cameos stored and waiting for the rest of our family to come prusing by and approve or be appalled by what they see.

What wasn't anticipated was my reaction. Nears tears, what happened to that skinny guy i knew. I literally look like I ate him... This is not acceptable and I need to change. Last night I said in 2010 I woudl make the cut, but I am thinking it is more realistic for it to happen now! My health is a big issue and putting on 22 pounds since we moved into the neighborhood makes me extremely nervous. Time to change. Time to expose the man that is buried deep within my exoskeleton of fat, and showcase the inner strength of change.

Will it start today, tomorrow or in the next 2 weeks, I cannot say, but it HAS to happen. I cannot be appalled by myself any longer

2009 bulge...

2009.... hmmm... What is there to say about 2009? How about starting with the packing on of 30 lbs. Where did that come from?

Its simple. Good Food, Good Wine, and an inactive career change. Add those together and you have disaster.

The fundamental challenge now becomes what is going to be done about this excess weight that has attached its self to my body like a tantrum throwing toddler.
